FAA Biorka Island Transformer & Contaminated Soil Removal

The objective of this remedial action was to locate, remove, and dispose of abandoned transformers at the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Biorka Island site and remove associated impacted soil.

The remedial action included: removal and containerization of two transformers; excavation of impacted soil located beneath the transformers; collection of soil samples at excavation limits for analysis of diesel range organics (DRO); residual range organics (RRO); polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs); and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs); characterization of the soil located inside of the transformers and soil removed from the excavation; and transport and disposal of the transformers and excavated soil.
